We are not asking for any favours,
we are asking for our rights.
At the full Council Meeting, I raised this issue once again, along with our shared frustration over the lack of action from Highways, despite multiple follow-ups with them.
The ongoing poor road conditions in Burnley, especially on Abel Street, New Hall Street, and Hurtley Street, are completely unacceptable. The people of Burnley deserve
far better than neglected, unsafe, and deteriorating roads.
In the full council meeting, I raised my concerns to the Deputy Leader for Reform
about the spread of misinformation amongst young people
and the impact it’s having on dividing communities.
I highlighted that this issue could lead to serious consequences if not addressed,
and I asked what steps are being taken to tackle misinformation while encouraging
young people to get more involved in local and national politics.
Free speech should empower the voiceless, not only amplify the powerful.
I spoke on the motion about free speech, adding the reality that while
it is a core democratic value; it must not be used to silence marginalised individuals,
especially from minority communities.
True free speech uplifts those without power and ensures all voices
are heard, not just the loudest.
